....LUKEWARM OFF THE PRESSES... WHENEVER WE COME UP WITH SOMETHING VAGUELY INTERESTING TO SHARE
(AND, COME TO THINK OF IT, WHEN WE DON'T)
18th DREAM UPDATE
Obviously, the future is uncertain for all events over the next few months, but we're currently all pressing ahead in the hope that, by August, life will be returning to something approaching normality and we'll be able to celebrate with the annual meeting of the clans. We'll keep you posted, meanwhile the FdM goodie-bags are growing by the day!
SCHIZO FUN ADDICT'S NEW ALBUM A 18th DREAM EXCLUSIVE
Ticket-holders at this summer's Dr. Sardonicus festival will have the chance to buy a copy of Schizo Fun Addict's new album, 'The Last Wave'. The album will be officially released as a download and CD through Flicknife Records but there will also be a limited run of LPs on FdM's Regal Crabomophone label and the only copies we'll have for sale will be at the festival - the band and Flicknife get the rest (Flicknife are kindly giving us CDs to go with the LPs); oh, and we might put a few aside for a competition or two!
The band - without whom FdM would never have got off the ground, are organising everything - were originally planning to make this a lathe-cut but they've now confirmed it will be a numbered 99-run 'full-blown' pressing, on cool transparent green vinyl.
More news soon...
ANYONE GOT A SPARE LOW-LOADER?
The 18th Dream of Dr. Sardonicus goodie-bag is taking over FdM Towers - I've just taken delivery of 150 live
DVDs from Electric Orange, plus 100 CDs from them and CDs from Fred Laird, Earthling Society, The Telephones and The Electric Crayon Set. This year's goodie-bag will be a little different - as well as being jam-packed with music, there'll be an element of a lucky dip as not everyone will get exactly the same selection - as well as the signed Past Tense 7", the Electric Orange CD and a 'core' batch of 5 or so CDs, everyone will get an addition 2 or 3 CDs kindly supplied by bands and labels - more details as soon as the dust settles, but it's going to be fun packing this lot and getting it all to Cardigan.
SWEDISH PROG ROCK?
Anyone for some rather fine, never-before-released Scandanavian progressive rock, by a band that by sheer coincidence once played a gig with Tor Peders (remember their LP on FdM?)
Fruits de Mer is pleased to be able to share the first physical release of this album, on CD as part of the 18th Dream festival FdM goodie-bag (there'll be an opportunity to get hold of one track from it on our late-May members club free compilation CD - but you can hear it here...
...and you can read a bit more about the album
THE PAST TENSE LIVE
The 'new' five-piece Past Tense are playing The Fighting Cocks in Kingston on March 14 - hopefully including a few tracks from their 2019 'sell-out' 7"+CD on Fruits de Mer! It's a local gig for us, so we'll be there; three bands playing, with The Past Tense second-on, so don't be late. Details
HERE COME THE FREAKS
Thank you to Stuart Maconie for playing Fuchsia's new version of 'See Emily Play' (from 'A Band For All Seasons') on BBC 6Music's Freakzone (about 30 mins into his show if you'd like to hear it) - just click
TOMMY HISTON RIDES AGAIN
Andy Bracken, FdM's co-founder and now full-time wordsmith, has just published his latest novel, 'Folklorist, the Tommy Histon Story'. Theodore Thomas Marshall Histon recorded four albums during his lifetime, each of which predated music trends:-- rock'n'roll and rockabilly in 1949 on 'Three Minute Hero’.- folk-rock in 1953 on 'Track Back And Trail On'.- acid-folk and baroque-folk in 1954 on 'Coda'.- psychedelic, krautrock, progressive folk, and plenty more besides, in 1964 on 'Kimono For Kip'.Born in Virginia, USA, in February 1932, Tommy suffered with mental health problems throughout his life. Exacerbated by a claimed alien abduction in 1956, Histon spent four and half years in a mental health facility between 1957 and 1962. He further claimed the aliens sought to gain knowledge of his ability to see the future. Listening to his music, one can’t help but wonder if, in fact, he could....

HEAR EMILY PLAYED...
How about a preview of Fuchsia's rather lovely new version of the Syd Barrett/Pink Floyd classic...?
or The Lemon Clocks' take on 'Crimson & Clover'... ...or Permanent Clear Light covering VDGG's 'Refugees'? Three of the exclusive tracks on our new 4CD set, 'A Band For All Seasons' - 61 tracks for £15 - we must be mad.
THE LOUNGE BAR ORCHESTRA UNVEILED
The Strange Brew's Jason Barnard has tracked down the man behind the Lounge Bar Orchestra's cracking 'Pilot Episodes' LP on 'Friends of the Fish', who reveals all (or most, anyway).
Read all about it
Mark McDowell has just posted a preview track from his new 'Breakthrough' LP on Youtube and I had to share it...

VINYL UNDER THREAT AFTER USA PLANT FIRE?
"Devastating manufacturing Plant Fire Threatens Worldwide Vinyl Record Supply..."
"Vinyl Record Production in Peril After Fire at California Plant..."
"Vinyl Record Industry Fears 'Vinylgeddon' After Fire Burns Down Apollo Masters Plant..."
After reading headlines like these, a couple of people have quite rightly asked me whether the recently-reported fire in the USA will impact on FdM. As we tend to get records cut on copper, I didn't think there was any short-term risk, but asked all the same - and received the following, very reassuring reply from Record Industry in the Netherlands - our usual pressing plant...
"Many concerned customers contacted us to ask if Record Industry will be affected... As there are only two companies in the world which produce lacquers, it will ultimately have consequences for the availability of lacquers and perhaps also vinyl production in general. Some cutting rooms that rely on Apollo lacquers will not be able to provide cuts to pressing plants in the long run unless they can purchase MDC lacquers. It remains to be seen how MDC will deal with the increased demand and whether they can meet this. Little is known about their capacity.
No consequences for Record Industry for now, we still have enough lacquers on stock. We have been working for years with both MDC and Apollo lacquers which we purchase from suppliers with whom we have built up long time relationships, we are not worried about not being able to get enough MDC lacquers supplied. We cut a significant part of our production on copper, DMM, which we produce in-house. No matter what happens, our production will continue to operate. We do not expect longer production times or any other delays caused by this disastrous fire.
Whether new initiatives are emerging or perhaps Apollo will restart, time will tell but of course we hope so. We wish our friends from Apollo lots of strength and courage to overcome this disaster."
18th DREAM GOODIE-BAG MADNESS
This was supposed to be a QUIET year! I think we're up to a signed 7" single, a DVD and SEVEN CDs in every goodie-bag at this summer's festival - this is getting out-of-hand. Full details on the 18th Dream Festival page.
GIDEON COE RIDES AGAIN
Thank you to Gideon Coe for playing LoveyDove's version of 'Bedazzled' and Mark McDowell's 'Up The Wooden Hills To Bedfordshire' (a bit of a Small Faces lost gem) on his BBC 6Music show last night - both appear on the new 4CD set 'A Band For All Seasons.
He played them about 50 mins into his show - listen in
CREATING A BIG STIR
The latest addition to the 18th Dream festival goodie-bag is an exclusive CD of psych gems compiled by Big Stir Records, the Burbank California label which includes Anton Barbeau and Spygenius on its artist list.

KEEP 'EM PEELED
More goodies from The Striped Bananas, this time for the 18th Dream of Dr. Sardonicus festival...
Three years ago the band kindly gave everyone at our annual summer festival a free compilation CD, this time they've sent a batch of CDs, 7" singles and LPs over from the East Coast of the USA as prizes in the Fruits de Mer/Record Collector free raffle!
Check out The Striped Bananas bandcamp page
GET 'EM ORDERED
The FdM shop is now open and taking pre-orders for our late-March release
THREE FRIENDS REVEALED
There will be three spring releases from friends of Fruits de Mer - three albums where the artists are doing all the hard graft - including taking and sending out your orders - as I've got rather a lot on my plate at the moment, but I'll be doing my best to help them along the way.
Custard Flux - 'Echo' - first time on vinyl for Gregoary Curvey's new album
Mark McDowell and friends - 'Breakthrough' - the new album from FdM's live event regular
Lounge Bar Orchestra - 'The Pilot Episodes' - the long-lost LP from the even more lost TV series
- you can read a bit about each one y going to our DISCOGRAPHY page and clicking on each cover, and there'll be more details soon
HOW DOES FdM CATALOGUE NUMBERING WORK?
A good question - and of course it doesn't, but I'll have a go at explaining about 90% of the releases, the rest are one-offs or cock-ups (usually the latter):
Fruits de Mer 'crustaceans' - this is where we began - releases that are covers of tracks from the 60s and 70s
Regal Crabomophone 'winkles' - a new label we launched in 2011 to allow us to release a new song by The Chemistry Set and since then any release on vinyl that includes new songs, except for...
'strange fish' - when the music goes beyond our initial remit of psych/prog/krautrock/acid-folk; launched in 2013 with the 'strange fish' box-set
'FdM promos' - CDs - usually free to club members or at gigs - single-artist albums or compilations of FdM 'regulars'; launched after the number of freebies started to get out-of-hand and it didn't seem quite right to keep giving free CDs 'crustacean/winkle' catalogue numbers
'Friends of the Fish' (now it gets really confusing as there are at least three variations):
i. lathe-cuts - very limited runs, usually for sale at gigs or to club members
ii. albums that are self-released by artists that we really like when we don't have the energy to do it ourselves
iii. promo CDs - usually free to club members or at gigs, these are compilations featuring mainly new artists we think will be of interest to fans of FdM
I think that covers most of our first 12 years, except for the odd DVD, 5" single, cassette and the like - but do please let me know where and when it doesn't and I'll try to come up with some excuse to cover my tracks
LOST PROG ALBUM IN THE 18th DREAM GOODIE-BAG
an interesting FdM-related back-story to this album, which will appear for the first time in any physical format as part of the 18th dream goodie-bag - more news soon
no, it's not the FdM Gentle Giant tribute album (maybe one day), but three 'Friends of the Fish' LPs are in the pipeline for late-spring release (these are the ones where the individual artists do all the work - including taking orders and sending out copies - and I just sit back and tell you how wonderful they are, which of course they are); one of them will be The Lounge Bar Orchestra's follow-up to their incredibly-limited-and-virtually-impossible-to-track-down 8" lathe-cut, the other two will be announced very soon
THREE DIMENSIONAL TANX IN THE GOODIE-BAG
3DT are very kindly giving everyone who comes along to the 18th Dream of Dr. Sardonicus festival a free copy of their 'Attack' album on CD. At the moment, the Fruits de Mer goodie-bag looks like it will include:
- a signed Past Tense 7" white label single
- five CDs - a DVD and download cards for two more albums ...and I reckon there are one or two more things still to come
coming soon - The Lost Stoned Pandas stumble into FdM Towers...and record a double album. Keep watching the trees...
THE 18th DREAM GOODIE-BAG IS FILLING UP
We were going for something a bit more modest after last year's excesses, but it's not working out that way as we've already got a signed Past Tense FdM white label 7" for everyone plus an exclusive Todd Dillingham CD, compiled for us by his brother Mick; we've been promised copies of a 70s Russian prog/electronics compilation 'Strange Angels' by Yuri Morozov (courtesy of the excellent Buried Treasure label) and Electric Orange's 'Live in Wurzburg' DVD, while Geoff Dolman is going to be digging through the archives of his legendary Static Caravan label to come up with a little something for everyone with a ticket and SEN3 will be giving everyone free download codes for both their albums.
...and there's probably more to come soon.
PAUL RIGBY REVIEWS...
..our latest singles. Paul is responsible for Record Collector's 'Most Wanted' section and has started producing a regular Vinyl News video; we get featured about six minutes in...and he says rather nice things about them, and about FdM as it happens ("...if points were awarded for enthusiasm, Fruits de Mer would be the best record label in the world...") - good to know I can still tone down the cynical old-man grumpiness once in a while.
MORE RECORD COLLECTOR SPONSORSHIP OF THE 18th DREAM FESTIVAL
another full page ad for our summer festival in the latest issue of the vinyl junkie's bible. Man, Sendelica, Fuchsia, The Chemistry Set, Moon Goose, Psychic Lemon, Babal...you'd better book your ticket
EATS SHOOTS AND LEAVES
Those lost, stoned and elusive pandas will be making a rare appearance on the Fruits de Mer label in March - not to be missed - more news soon
HAPPY NEW YEAR
So what does 2020 have in-store as far as FdM is concerned? The easy bit is that we'll be at the 18th Dream of Dr Sardonicus festival in August with enough limited-run 'specials' to give your bank manager palpitations, but it will be the only 2020 gig where there'll be an FdM stall - so that's not too painful, is it?
As far as full-run releases are concerned, there'll be a few less of them than in the last couple of years - but they're all turning into multi-disc monsters - so it's quite possibly going to be our biggest year yet for music!
It all starts in late-March with a must-have double LP from those shy and mysterious Lost Stoned Pandas, a bloody huge 4CD version of 'The Three Seasons' (over four hours of music and a total of 61 tracks) and another, exclusive members club compilation CD.
I wanted to make this year one in which I get to work with a lot of new artists, and introduce them to fans of the label - I hope that idea appeals as i reckon there'll be something close to 20 artists that are new to the label appearing on this batch of releases - with more to come as the year progresses.
THE PRICE IS RIGHT
for me, anyway - sorry, I'm having to put up prices for 2020 releases - not by a lot and it's the first time in about three years, but the cost of vinyl pressings continues to go up and it doesn't help that I get everything pressed in Europe, and pay in sterling. But FdM prices in the UK are still inclusive of P&P, so I reckon you'll struggle to find a cheaper label.
...from Keith and Liz at Fruits de Mer - have a great time - we'll be back in the New Year (with thanks to Steve Hallam for the snazzy graphic)
RECORD COLLECTOR SPONSORSHIP OF THE 18th DREAM STARTS HERE
Gawd bless RC, who celebrate their must-read 500th issue with a full-page ad for our 2020 festival. More good things to come from our favourite magazine regarding the 18th Dream so, with over 2/3rds of the tickets already sold, now is a good time to beat the crowds and book your ticket
NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL INFLATION
Two weeks after the Thunderbolt gig and a copy of the Crystal Jacqueline Band 'All Over The World' 7" has sold on eBay for £131 and the Lounge Bar Orchestra 8" for £171; at least one person who came along to the gig will be able to afford to go to the 18th Dream festival in style and a number of us can tell our
somewhat sceptical partners, "well if I DID ever sell my records....".
ASTRALASIA/MUSHROOM PROJECT 'LALO ELIJAH' UPDATE
All my copies of this new 'Friends of the Fish' release have already gone - the album is one track split over 2 sides, it's the band's homage to Lalo Shifrin, soundtracks like 'Model Shop' and, of course, early Spirit. All done totally live in one take at 3am.
But you might still be able to get one from the band - have a look at their Facebook page
OUTSIDE AND INSIDE THE THUNDERBOLT
The Thunderbolt was packed on Saturday night (not least because it was pouring down and few of us were brave enough to venture outside), the highlight being the Fruits de Mer Records pop-up megastore (of course).
YOU TOO CAN LOOK LIKE YOU WERE AT THE THUNDERBOLT
We've unpacked the car following the gig, and we still have a few of the FdM t-shirts - drop me an email if you'd like to buy one (only medium/large/XL left). You won't look as good as Crystal Jacqueline does in one, but at least you can pretend you were there
Another sell-out gig on Saturday - lots of thanks to Record Collector magazine for all their support and publicity - with a great turn-out on the day despite the incessant rain (we should probably have been selling FdM umbrellas rather than giving them away!). Thank you to everyone for making it a cracking day.
PSYCHIC LEMON - DIDN'T SEE THEM COMING
Our latest booking for the 18th Dream of Dr. Sardonicus festival are Psychic Lemon - signed to the rather good Drone Rock label (damn them) and recently described as, “pioneers for the new wave of modern krautrock” - have a listen to track from their new L...P
EX NORWEGIAN TO PLAY CARDIGAN ON AUG 6
all the way from Miami Beach to Cardigan Bay, Ex Norwegian will be playing a free gig in the Cellar Bar to kick-off the 18th Dream festival - get over to Wales a day early for a flying start to a great weekend of music. If you came to this year's festival, you'll already know the band through the free compilation CD they gave everyone as part of the FdM goodie-bag; if you didn't, here's a taster...
"OUTSIDE, OUR WORLD..."
"Walking into the Cellar Bar is like passing through a dimensional membrane. Outside, our world, inside, Fruits de Mer's..."
I rather like that - Record Collector magazine's review of the 17th Dream Festival
CRYSTAL JACQUELINE CROSS-EXAMINED
Here's Jacqui talking to Icarus Peel and MegaDodo's John Blaney about here new album, her double EP, the Thunderbolt gig, some exclusive vinyl and more...
PAST IT, MISSED IT
Still 10 days to the official release date and we've already sold out of The Past Tense's 7"/CD package here at FdM Towers. But there is still hope - you can still buy a set from Heyday, Norman Records, Rough Trade, Shiny Beast - or direct from the band at their gigs.
AND we're down to the last 8 copies of Crystal Jacqueline's double 7" EP - the world's gone mad, I tell you.
THREE MORE GOOD REASONS TO GET TO THE THUNDERBOLT ON TIME
Record Collector magazine have very kindly given us three copies of their 2020 Rare Record Price Guide (essential reading, and worth £30 a time!) for the Fruits de Mer FREE raffle, which will take place around 2pm.
That's in addition to albums on RC's own label and other stuff.
We're all heart - or at least Record Collector magazine is.
Many thanks to Maxine Peake for playing two FdM tracks (SFA's 'Suspiria' and Saturn's Ambush's 'White Horses') on her BBC 6 Music special - a suitably eclectic mix of tracks, laced with great stories.
OUR NOVEMBER RELEASES HAVE ARRIVED - AND THEY'RE ALREADY ON THEIR WAY TO YOU
...but only if you ordered them. Great work by the Record Industry pressing plant to turn them round really quickly and Liz, Jo (Liz's daughter) and I managed to get all the pre-orders in the post this morning - it's been a while since we had a batch of singles-only releases and I'd forgotten how quick and easy they are to pack. I hope you enjoy them.
MUSHROOM PROJECT - A FEW COPIES AT THE THUNDERBOLT
I'm hoping to have just 10 copies of The Mushroom Project LP 'Keepers Of Castle Mound Vol 1' on sale at the Thunderbolt gig (quite possibly the last copies available anywhere). The project is the brainchild of Astralasia's Marc Swordfish, released on his own Fungus label, and there's more to come....(see below)
MUSHROOM PROJECT - NEW ALBUM - THUNDERBOLT EXCLUSIVE
...the more to come is the new Mushroom Proect LP 'Lalo Elijah' - a pretty remarkable one-take, 45 minute recording of the Spirit classic, 'Elijah', spread across two sides of vinyl - a 'Friends of the Fish' joint release with Marc Swordfish's 'fungus' private label.. Fingers crossed I'll have 50 copies of the 150-run album on sale at the Thunderbolt - ahead of its November 4th launch
THE PAST TENSE - TIME STANDS STILL
Here's a taster for The Past Tense's 7"EP/CD album package - excerpts from the four tracks that will appear on vinyl side of things- raw, authentic, bloody good - and available for pre-order from our SHOP
BETWEEN THE DEAD KENNEDYS AND A DEAD CASSIDY
Nestling somewhere between reviews of Jello Biafra and a 70s pop idol, Goldmine's Dave Thompson waxes lyrical about The Past Tense's 7"EP+CD album package...."It’s the energy, the enthusiasm and the sheer raw contagion that gives the package its glory, and it doesn’t matter whether you buy the single and get a free album, or buy the album and get a free single, either way, you’ll be hooked"
You can read it in full
HANFORD FLYOVER - JUST ANOTHER DAY
Here's an excerpt from Hanford Flyover's gorgeous remake of the Neon Pearl song - just one of four similarly lovely tracks on the new 'Sunny Spells' 7" EP (which is now available for pre-order from our SHOP)
"WERE YOU TRULY WAFTED HERE FROM PARADISE?"
OK, not exactly news but I had to share this from Graham Lovatt (who I've confused with Graeme Lockett, aka Head South By Weaving, oh how we laughed) - what did Jeremy Clyde from Chad & Jeremy get up to in his spare time? Well, here he is chatting up Lorraine Chase..
AN INTRODUCTION TO CRYSTAL JACQUELINE
‘Shards - an Introduction to Crystal Jacqueline’ - an exclusive compilation CD in...er...unusual packaging. Tracks pulled together from Jacqui’s releases on Fruits de Mer and Mega Dodo Records.
Just 50 copies for sale - first-come-first-served - at our November 2 gig at the Thunderbolt in Bristol - and just £5 a copy
...and of course no Fruits de Mer gig would be complete without the traditional Fruits de Mer Records £5 t-shirts - wear them with pride, wash them with care...
NOW TAKING PRE-ORDERS FOR OUR NOVEMBER RELEASES
The FdM SHOP page is now open for business - for the Nov 2 releases by Crystal Jacqueline, The Past Tense and the 'Sunny Spells' EP
AND THEN THERE WERE EIGHT
We're down to the last eight tickets for our November 2nd gig at the Thunderbolt - you have been warned
FICTIONAL ZAPOROZHIAN COSSACK JOINS 18th DREAM FESTIVAL LINE-UP

THE SOUND OF THE OMEROYD SOUND
If you're coming along to the Thunderbolt and you're wondering who or what The Lounge Bar Orchestra are (or were), a little bit of background is revealed along with a
sneak preview of one of the tracks, the theme to the TV series, 'The Washing Line' HERE
LONDON UNDERGROUND SIGN ON
Another little treat for the first in the queue at the FdM/MegaDodo Thunderbolt gig - we'll have 18 copies of the London Underground's original pressing of their 'Four' LP for sale - signed on the back cover by all three members of the band.
As well as Tir na nOg, Crystal Jacqueline Band, Green Seagull, The Past Tense and Jack Ellister playing live and lots of giveaways, there'll also be two Fruits de Mer Records limited-run lathe-cut singles for sale - a 7" from The Crystal Jacqueline Band and The Lounge Bar Orchestra 8" (I've just spent a day trimming and folding the sleeves!).
Last tickets available now from
Four tracks from an early 2020 mammoth CD set - a taster for what is to come - 60s psychedelia revisited - with tracks vy Schizo Fun Addict, Hanford Flyover, Us and Them and...did someone mention Chad & Jeremy? Oh yes. - more news soon

17th DREAM REVIEW
Very nice write-up by The StrangeBrew of this year's festival - and completely unexpected, otherwise we'd have plied the reviewer with huge about of Mantle 17th Dream best bitter
Kind words HERE
MAN ON LONDON UNDERGROUND
Just in case you hadn't noticed, Pete Bingham has pulled off a double coup for the 2020 summer festival - Italy's brilliant LONDON UNDERGROUND will be headlining on the Sunday night, while legendary Welsh rockers MAN will be top of the bill on Saturday night - not too shabby, eh?
The Past Tense had never got round to a full-blown FdM release, but now they've gone for it in style with a 7"EP+CD album package to celebrate them playing our Thunderbolt gig - a four-track EP plus an all-new 10-track CD - and every one is a 60s cover, delivered with a real passion for 60s mod/psych/freakbeat - more news soon
BACK WHERE WE STARTED
For our first few years, Fruits de Mer was a 60s/early 70s covers label - a sort of time-warped Hot Hits; after a while we followed in the footsteps of pure-as-snow May West and drifted. I'd like to think we've visited some interesting and unexpected places along the way, but this autumn we go back to our beginnings with three vinyl releases that are all 7"s and all packed with tracks that were first recorded in that golden period of 1966-1973.
Of course next year we'll be switching off the sat nav again, putting on the company blindfold and careering into the mists of time, but it's good to be revisiting our roots.
AND SO IT GOES...
I'm pleased to say there'll be another Dr. Sardonicus festival next year - it'll be in the Cellar Bar in Cardigan from August 7-9 and the line-up is looking..well, pretty bloody great, as it happens!
The first of our start-of-November full-run vinyl releases will be a double 7" EP from Crystal Jacqueline and The Honey Pot; it's called 'I Talk To The Wind', and that might just give you a hint regarding one of the tracks on it. More news soon
OLD GOSSIP, NEW TITLE
we've done a bit of re-organising on Facebook...
All the out-of-date news, gossip and senseless Fruits de Mer drivel is now HERE
- this page is now officially 'Fruits de Mer Records archives and back-catalogue' - snappy, eh?
And you'll get all our latest news, gossip and senseless drivel at
- bet you're almost as excited as we are.
35 Cranmer Avenue
SENDELICA - NINE MILES HIGH
here's an excerpt from the sidelong epic track by Sendelica - taken from their new double LP 'Cromlech Chronicles IV', on sale now from...er, well us, actually.
TODD DILLINGHAM - ASTRAL WHELKS AT THE THUNDERBOLT
There'll be a rather special - and exclusive - free CD for everyone at the FdM/MegaDodo Thunderbolt one-dayer on November 2 - a copy of Todd Dillingham's 'Astral Whelks' album, with a new sleeve design by his brother Mick Dillingham. Todd died last year - a true musical eccentric - and a great friend of Fruits de Mer. Todd's wife Pam kindly let us release a compilation CD we'd been working on with Todd just a few months before he died, which we gave to everyone at the 17th Dream festival, and now Mick has come up with a new look to Todd's 'Astral Whelks' album (yes, Todd was coming up with mad fishy puns while FdM was still cod roe).
CRYSTAL JACQUELINE BAND LATHE-CUT
We'll have two exclusive lathe-cuts for sale at the Thunderbolt gig, the first of which will be a single from the Crystal Jacqueline Band. It combines a cover of The Wildweeds' 'I'm Dreaming' with 'All Over The World', from the brilliant film, 'Still Crazy'. 'I'm Dreaming' is a new recording by Jacqui and co, while 'All Over The World' is an extended version of the recording that appeared on the FdM members club CD 'Strange Fruit And Veg' a few years back but for some reason has never made it onto vinyl - until now.
A VERY GOOD CAUSE
many thanks to Pete Bingham from Sendelica for his winning bid of £200 for the Fruits de Mer-styled speakers at the 17th Dream of Dr. Sardonicus festival. They were donated by FdM club member Nigel Vernon and all proceeds will go to Nigel's chosen charity, the Alzheimers Society
GOODBYE TO THE 17th DREAM
Our best yet? I say it every year, but it probably was - amazing music, good weather, everyone seemed to be happy (or at least drunk), and we'll be back in 2020 for the 18th Dream - August 7-9.
Thank you everyone for making it so much fun, as well as just a bit knackering.
SENDELICA CROMLECH CHRONICLES IV
Welsh spacerock meets 60s West Coast USA.
Three sides of extended instrumentals, with the 4th side UV overprinted - now in-stock and it looks as good as it sounds; it's a new printing technique offered by our pressing plant - not a picture disc but a disc with a picture on it!
OUR JULY VINYL IS IN THE BUILDING
..and indeed some of it has already left FdM Towers- all pre-orders placed direct with us here at Fruits de Mer will be in the post no later than Friday (July 25). We're long sold out of the London Underground double LP and we're down to the last few copies of 'Windmill' on clear vinyl, so please don't take too long in getting your order in
THE LATEST ARRIVAL AT THE 17TH DREAM FESTIVAL
an unexpected bonus at the festival – I Am Voyager 1 will be giving everyone an exclusive and FREE 5” lathe-cut on Sunday, featuring their version of Syd’s ‘Golden Hair’, which we released a while back on one of the Bowie members club CDs.
I Am Voyager 1 will be playing an acoustic set on Sunday afternoon and are led by Phil Macy, lathe-cutter extraordinaire (Phil produces all the FdM lathe-cuts by hand and can produce anything from 5” to 12” discs, in quantities of 1 to 100 - find out more HERE).
So that means the FdM freebies at this year’s festival total 13 CDs, a 7” Elfin Bow single, a 5” I Am Voyager 1 lathe-cut and a poster from Psychotron Records – good grief, there’ll be no room in the car for anything else.
BUMPER CROP OF SHINDIG REVIEWS
All hail Shindig! reviewers for an outbreak of good taste and a load of great reviews for our July releases in the latest issue.
ASTRALASIA 'KETTLE' - SPECIAL EDITION
a sneak preview of some of the music contained on the bonus LP that is part of the special edition of Astralia's double LP - on sale at the 17th Dream festival, naturally.
Have a quick listen HERE
ASTRALASIA 'KETTLE' - SPECIAL EDITION
I may have mentioned an 'extra' with this special edition, other than the bonus LP? Well, here's a first sighting - it's a bloody Rubik's cube. The downside is that it will be hell to post - that's why I'm hoping to sell most of my copies at the festival - the good news is that there's no right answer to it, so all you have to do is twirl it round a bit and then put it down with a smug smile on your face - no-one will ever know
THE BLUE PETER APPROACH
Take a bunch of 10p tote-bags (found on ebay), a tin of black gloss, a £2.50 paint roller and an FdM stencil and what do you get? A bunch of unwanted 10p tote-bags with FdM painted on them. Don't worry - I'm not going to try to sell them to you - but if you're early in the queue at Cardigan and you buy a special edition of an FdM album you'll find yourself the (proud?) owner of one.
17th DREAM RAFFLE PRIZES
I'm gathering together prizes for the the Fruits de Mer Records raffle on Saturday afternoon at the 17th Dream of Dr. Sardonicus festival...
Lots of vinyl albums to be won, courtesy of:
- Record Collector magazine - our rather wonderful festival sponsors
- Mercy and the Wild Sea (who have also kindly given us an exclusive CD version of their album to inclusion in the FdM gooide-bag)
- Das Blau Palais - who have not only given us some vinyl copies of their LP 'Welt Am Draht' as prizes, but have also given us enough copies of the album on CD for us to include one in every goodie-bag
everyone's a winner at the 17th Dream festival (well, not exactly everyone - you'll have about a 1 in 6 chance of winning)
THE RETURN OF THE £5 T-SHIRTS
yes, they'll be back at Cardigan - so cheap that even Primark are looking worried. How do we do it? Why do we do it, is probably a better question.
PSYCHOTRON POSTERS AT THE 17th DREAM FESTIVAL
some rather special late arrivals for the Fruits de Mer Records 17th Dream festival goodie-bag - courtesy of Psychotron Records....
I've just taken delivery of 150 of their fantastic 'Spirit Of The Sixties' posters - repros of classic posters featuring The Doors, Stones and more. They usually retail at £10 a time but Pete and Linda Bonner at Psychotron are kindly giving everyone at the festival a sample poster for free (they'll be at the festival, so you can thank them personally!).

ELFIN BOW SPECIAL EDITION 7" - FREE AT THE 17th DREAM FESTIVAL
The free Fruits de Mer Records 7” everyone who comes along (with a valid ticket!) will get on Saturday will be an exclusive white vinyl version of Elfin Bow and Gary Lloyd’s ‘Who Know Where The Time Goes’ 7”.
Elizabeth Kearney (aka Elfin Bow) has drawn about 30 different label designs for it – here are just a few of them (a bit of a sod for obsessive collectors – you’ll only get one) and she’s very kindly signed most of them (AND there’s a few of her original drawings mixed in with the laser copies - luck of the draw on who gets those); it makes for a really lovely copy of a fantastic single. Elizabeth is playing a solo set on Friday night, but I hope she’ll be able to stay around on Saturday/Sunday to enjoy the rest of the festival.
16th DREAM LIVE - SPECIAL EDITION
..and as if that wasn't enough, the special editions of our 16th Dream Live double LPs will include - amongst other things - an Elfin Bow lathe-cut 7" that includes an exclusive recording of 'Edith's Song' from last year's festival.
NEED A STIFF DRINK?
The Mantle Brewery’s special edition best bitter is ready for buying and drinking…
It looks almost too good to open the bottle – but that would be silly. It’ll be on sale at the festival, or from the Mantle Brewery just down the road from the Cellar Bar – or you can order online for home delivery - https://mantlebrewery.com/…/fruits-de-mer-special-edition-…/
- it’s a lovely pint.
VOYAGERS 16th DREAM LP
Pete Bingham and co are self-releasing a 200-run pressing of the Fellowship Of Hallucinatory Voyagers set from last years festival - for sale at the 17th Dream; a 'Friends of the Fish' special release
SENDELICA SINGLES ON FdM - THE CD!
another 17th Dream festival special from Pete and the gang - a very limited run of CDs featuring a whole load of tracks that they've released on FdM 7"s over the years - CDs are good for some things, and this is one of them. Not on on FdM sub-label, but essential all the same!
17th DREAM FESTIVAL LINE-UP CHANGES
The Fellowship Of Hallucinatory Travellers, with Paul Sax from Curved air guesting, and Lost Tuesday Society have kindly stepped in after Red Sun had to cancel their UK tour and nick nicely lost all his stage gear after a gig in the USA; unfortunately SEN3 will NOT be able to fit in a Sunday afternoon slot, but Sarah Birch will be playing a solo set featuring songs from he debut album - lovely stuff!.
