It started as a competition question - Fruits de Mer followers share some of their favourite tracks - psychedelia, progressive rock, krautrock, kosmische, acid-folk, folk rock, old and new...

Nothing too obvious here - but surely it's much more fun that these are relatively undiscovered gems

i. BARBARA ALLEN - ABUNAI!
ii. WE - THE TRIP
iii. ALAN HULL - DRUG SONG
iv. RALPH HEIDEL - AVI

i. Robert Musgrove says, " a great version of a folk tune in not a very folk way"
ii. Scott Heller released the album with this track on it
iii. Chris Purdon: "Why the track is a bit special: Alan Hull is vastly underrated as a songwriter, yet some (e.g. Elvis Costello, Sting, Peter Gabriel) consider him to be “England’s Bob Dylan” He deserves far wider recognition other than just as the front man for Lindisfarne. This song captures the beauty, simplicity and humour of his songs and is little known: it’s from his solo album “Pipedream” rather than being one of the Lindisfarne classics"
IV. Jonathan Maddock says the track is special because of its energy and its typical of his music - distorted sax and synths played with feeling. he can't believe he's so unknown!

i. THE URGES - PSYCH WARD
ii. KAREN DALTON - IT HURTS ME TOO
iii. FLYTE REACTION - FLAGS ON THE MOON
iv. ROY ORBISON - SOUTHBOUND JERICHO PARKWAY

ii. Peter Aston's choice
iii. Paul Standley recalls a song and a moment..."love the reverb and feedback intro that transitions into a semi-pop, psychedelic, dreamy song, ending with some excellent repetitive drumming. It brings back memories of a camping trip I took with my brother-in-law and young nephew in April 1994. That was the same time we heard about the death of Kurt Cobain from Nirvana. Later that night, we played this song while gazing at the thousands of stars in the night sky"
IV. Designer to the stars, Dale Simpson, days, "I first heard when I was in my early teens and was into Northern Soul, what I liked about it was that fast beat in the chorus; hearing it again later I realise it is also slightly delic too"

i. HENRY BADOWSKI - BABY SIGN HERE WITH ME
ii. THE SUPERNATURALS - I WASN'T BUILT TO GET UP
iii. THE POPPY FAMILY - WHERE EVIL GROWS
iv. FUNAKI - KANGAROO

i. Arnald Paul says, "All the things I loved then, and still do...Eno, Barrett, Tubeway Army"
ii. "I love this driving powerpop and used to sing this to myself on the way to work around 4am", says Ryne Hoek
iii. Over to FdM's archivist Mark Brady, "When I first heard this a few years ago, during the end titles to an episode of 'Killing Eve' I was intrigued to find out more. Very surprised to discover Terry Jacks ('Seasons In The Sun') was behind it earlier in his career (1971)"
IV. another from Mark - Norwegian friends of his...

i. DYLAN GROUP - TOWERS OF THE DUB
ii. THE LOVELY EGGS - MAGIC ONION
iii. CRYSTALLINE - A HOUSE IS NOT A MOTEL
iv. JULIAN COPE - AN ELEGANT CHAOS

iii. Tom Pratt rates this as a brilliant 1970 cover of what is a classic song..."the singer is just so haunting, and the guitar solo at the end is amazing.

i. HONOLULU MOUTAIN DAFFODILS - PSYCHIC HITLIST VICTIM No.8

ii. BHAJAN BHOY- SIR RICHARD CONYERS
iii. CHRYSALIS - DR. ROOT'S GARDEN
iv. DELIA DERBYSHIRE AND ANTHONY NEWLEY - MOOGIES BLOOGIES

i. Matt Breach describes this as "essentially a 9 minute guitar solo which doesn’t feel long enough :) Originally came out late in 2017, and he has done 2 more albums as sequels to this one"
ii. Ernie Oakley explains that this was recorded on an old Church Organ In South Croton, Yorkshire - just gentle repetitive music to get lost in, it does vary but very subtly.
iii. A really strange and outré song released in 1968; Henry Schneider thinks that there some connection to Frank Zappa back then
IV. Rob Roden loves it!
