“THERE IS A PURITY AND BEAUTY TO THIS MUSIC THAT SHINES A LIGHT” UNCUT
"A POTENT NEW PAIRING" MOJO
Introducing La Nouvelle Musique - Joanna Beck & Ian de Silva - a new duo for Fruits de Mer Records (we seem to be making a habit of supporting duos), with a VERY limited 7" lathe-cut 7" that gives you just a taster of what's to come from them in 2025.
La Nouvelle Musique are London based, they mix the psych/folk elements of folktronica with a vocal style that falls somewhere between Siouxsie Sioux and Trish Keenan of Broadcast, together with an orchestration on some of their songs that give the songs a 'big screen' treatment.
They work as a self-contained unit, writing, recording and producing their music
at Berwick Street Studios in Soho, London (which is where Ultravox recorded 'Vienna' and The Sex Pistols recorded their version of 'My Way', although not at the same time).
Here's how Joanna and Ian describe the two tracks on their single...
'Time Ticks Slowly' Is literally about the movement of time and how ten minutes can seem like an hour or just a matter of seconds. It also touches on how life experiences are subjective and unique to everyone.
'Water to Wine' is an instrumental written after watching the Jim Jarmusch film 'Down By Law' it's just a melody we imagined could work over the closing credits to that movie.
We were heavily oversubscribed for this release, and ran a lucky draw for copies
