How did Psychotron begin?
Shop first opened in 2019, before that we were in a local market stall for 2 years, before that I did record fairs for 30 years.

Who's in charge?
Run and owned by Peter & Linda Bonner

What do you specialise in?
Mainly sell used vinyl apart from a couple of specialists like FDM

Do you trade on-line?
We have several thousand titles listed on Discogs, mail order in the UK - used to sell a lot to Europe but Brexit ended that.

Does Psychotron run in-shop sessions/signings?
We have done in store small gigs in the past and hopefully will do that again soon.

What else does Psychotron get up to?
We have our own tiny label to support friends music, mainly Carrie Martin, Timo Paakko and Godon Giltrap but also issued the last lp by the band JULY

How has the record business changed in recent years?
Not much has changed in the last 6 years, we are the cheapest and best shop in Birmingham, I sell a lot to other dealers as I’m cheaper.

What do you make of Record Store Day?
I'm not a fan of RSD - good intentions at the start but now just a rip off for shops and customers alike - we do not participate.

Is there a typical Psychotron customer?
No average customer, 14 year olds buying Abba to 80 year old buying old blues.

Any artists that sell particularly well in the shop?
We still sell plenty of Beatles (around £15 each not the £70 most shops charge!) Smiths... Joy Division still sell well and Amy Winehouse flies out when i manage to get some in stock.

Do you have any particular styles of music you enjoy?
Personally I love psych and prog so always pushing that to customers

What next for Psychotron?
We are just about to launch a new Timo Paakko LP on our owen label - only 99 copies all in unique hand painted covers, numbered, top notch psychedelic rock.

You can find Pete and Linda at Psychotron, 26 Boldmere Rd, Boldmere, Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield B73 5TD
