How did Spillers begin?
Spillers first opened in 1894 and has been continuously trading in Cardiff since then (it's the world's oldest record shop).

Who's in charge?
Ashli Todd

How did you get involved in the first place?
A part-time job in 1996 that Ash couldn't escape!

What do you specialise in?
We are all New / 1st hand in the shop but pride ourselves in stocking a wide range of independent artists / chart toppers / classic albums! Cover lots of genres from Folk/Americana, World, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Rock, Pop and more!

Do you trade on-line?

How has your shop changed since vinyl made a comeback?
We never stopped selling vinyl but you definitely see more and more people each week getting into records, but as always we still love CDs too!

Can you describe your typical customer?
Hard to pinpoint, we have all sorts of lovely customers. We're very lucky! We all share the love of music though that's for sure.

Which two or three artists are you currently seeing most demand for?
There's so many but currently we'd probably say Fontaines D.C., Nick Cave and Kneecap.

How to you see the next two or three years for the shop?
An abundance of great new music hopefully!

How do you feel about Record Store Day?
We've been there since year minus 1 (before there were any releases!) We love seeing the smile on people's faces and the buzz around the shop.

Any moments you've had in the shop you'd like to share?
Having Pixies in for a signing back in 2019 was pretty surreal?! We still can't quite believe it to this day - was a wonderful day filled with so much joy.

Does Spillers run in-shop sessions/signings?
We do yes, we have Wendy James in for an instore / signing 7/11/24 - and this year alone we've had Bill Ryder-Jones, Los Campesinos, Cast, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard & more
