LIVERPOOL RECORD SHOPS
Pete Banahan and Ritchie Walker reminisce (please email me with your Liverpool stories)

"...remembering the now sadly now longer existent `Hairy Records`, once on Hope Street in Liverpool...I had met up with about a dozen of us in `Hairy Records` and we were happily perusing the well organised LPs & CDs in this dark and dank shop.
Some of us (nearly all really) had armfuls of LPs, including myself which we were queueing to pay for when the owner, a ramshackle looking character bawled out to those still selecting records, "Hurry up and fuck off, I`m shutting the shop!" I asked his mate who was in the shop with him, "What`s up with him?" To which he replied, "Nothing really, once he gets enough money, it`s back to the pub."
I had been in the shop many times, that`s when you could find it open and it had a great stock of used vinyl. I never bought a dud LP from the shop and am sorry to see it go despite `Mr Kranky`(Ritchie Walker)

"The most startling experience I had was probably in Probe Records in Liverpool city center (Rainford Square), there was a guy dressed all black wearing a witches hat sat behind the counter and he boomed out 'can I help you' (frightened the life out of me), it was the then owner Pete Burns (Nightmares in Wax/Dead or Alive) and he did help me although I can't remember what I actually bought at the time."
