Fruits de Mer's club members brighten these dark times with a selection of their favourite songs from the era of peace, love, sun, beads and hippies; but some of the best songs of love and hope aren't from the sixties at all - here are a few that weren't, but could have been...

(ok, so one or two of them are pretty downbeat, but they're still worth checking out)

David Nelson kicks things off with The Springfields (no, not those Springfields), then it's over to Luke Lands with two suggestions, David Smith with a blast of The Green Pajamas and lots of club members remembered The Barracudas...

Ari Holpainen found peace and love in Finland in the 80s, Nik Williams found a great Norwegian cover in the 90s, Andy Butler's choice was much closer to home - as was Darren Chittick's from 2014, and then Pete Banahan spotted the Brinsleys asking the question on everyone's lips...

Gareth Lapworth and Tony Miller came up with Sun Dial recordings, Mark Smith suggested Primal Scream and The Loves and Dale Simpson recommended Greek Theatre...

Mike Milsom kicks this section off with three great psych tracks, Chris Bembridge goes in search of a lava lamp and Andy Kew gets Fegmania...

Chris Bembridge shared his ultimate summer song, John Sewell offered up a lesser-know Who song, Mark Wright came much closer to the present day and Chris Dale got all tasteful...nice

Dewi Roberts came up with two versions of a Temples song, Chris Purdon and Iain Davie went back to 1970, Stephen Young looked back at the first Glastonbury festival...

Andy Thomas volunteered four more examples, and got a row all to himself for his trouble!

...and I know this is off-message, but there was another period of happiness at the start of the 90s that cheered me up no end...

help spread the word!
